New York City is the basketball capital of the world. You are within walking distance of a pick-up game at any given time, regardless of which borough you’re in. This probably isn’t news to you but what happens during the winter months when you want to ball? Don’t worry here are a few places you can hit up whenever you want (with a small membership fee of course.)
Chelsea Piers Sports Center. The Sports Center is home to 3 full-sized, hardwood courts that are perfect for a little shoot-around or pick-up game. Located on Pier 60 on 20th Street and Hudson River Park.
McBurnery YMCA. McBurney offers up drop-in indoor basketball every morning from 6am-9:30am and on most nights from 9:30pm-11pm. Located on West 14th between 6th and 7th Avenue.
Jackie Robinson Park. The recreation center at Jackie Robinson Park is accessible at a reasonable fee. Plus it is within walking distance of Rucker Park if things warm up a bit. Located at Bradhurst and Edgecombe Avenue.
Brooklyn Sports Club. It’s pretty hard to find a time that the Brooklyn Sports Club isn’t open to play some hoops. And it’s one of the best places you can find to play indoor in Brooklyn. Located on 1540 Van Siclen Avenue.
Lost Battalion Hall Recreation Center. One of the few public indoor courts in Queens, Lost Battalion Hall is the perfect place to get a group together for some ball. Located on 93-29 Queens Boulevard in Rego Park.

The decision by NBA Commissioner, David Stern, to veto a trade that would send New Orleans Hornets Guard, Chris Paul, to the Los Angeles Lakers has created arguably the most controversial moment in NBA history. As you all know, this year has already been crazy for the NBA with the lockout and a move like this from Stern could potentially hurt the league’s credibility. The question now is what to do; Should Stern go back on his word and let the trade go through or stick to his guns? Only time will tell.
