We’re talking about the recovery process. A basketball game is a grueling 48-minute battle of the body and mind that will leave you feeling exhausted post-game. Enjoy these tips from us at Above the Rim, that will help you prepare for your next game, win or lose.
Hydrate and Fuel Up. To aid your muscle recovery, do your best to consume carbs and proteins within the first 30-minute after your game. Some good fluids and foods for this include; Protein shakes, protein bars, and sports drinks. It is important to get your body these nutrients so it can recover at a quicker rate. This will allow you to train harder the following day.
Don’t Dwell on a Bad Game. Have you in fact ever been that person to miss that last rebound to protect your team’s lead? Well if you have it’s not a good feeling. But there is no need to dwell on the past. Collect your thoughts after the game and come up with a plan on how you can improve next time. That’s it. No need to re-play past mistakes in your head over and over again.
Talk and Analyze. Gather together with your coach or your teammates and discuss what went down in the game. If you did something really well be sure to remind each other to do so in the next game. If certain things went wrong, this is the opportune time to hash out each problem and plan on how you will correct these actions.
Train on Your Off-Time. The best way to recover from a basketball game is to keep training. This is the time in which you can perfect your shooting stroke, work on your fitness, and finely tune your dribbling skills. By training on your own time you will take care of the little things and then you can use team practices to go over game strategies.
If you follow these simple pieces of advice when it comes to recovering from a basketball game, you will without a doubt come out a better player next game.

When it comes to basketball documentaries, you could without a doubt watch these three all day, every day.
Hoop Dreams. This is pretty much like the Mecca of all basketball films, maybe even sports films as a whole. If you haven’t seen it before, Hoop Dreams follows two inner-city Chicago teens, William Gates and Arthur Agee, who dream of one day playing in the NBA. It provides an excellent depiction of the passion, determination and sacrifices that so many have made for the sport of basketball.
The Street Stops Here. This documentary follows the efforts of Coach Bob Hurley and the St. Anthony High School boy’s basketball team on their road to a national championship. Throughout his long career as a coach, Hurley has become one of the most well renowned figures in basketball due to his uncanny ability to win and his desire to put his players on a path towards higher education.
Through the Fire. This groundbreaking documentary highlights Sebastian Telfair on his road to the NBA. Follow Telfair as he makes the tough and risky decision to play professional basketball straight out of high school instead of following through with his plans to play ball at the University of Louisville. The perfect display of what decisions all-star high school players are faced with nowadays.
